Kiona, Annette’s best friend and neighbor, has had her hair forcibly cut by her white teacher at a predominantly white elementary school. Florence, Kiona’s mother, passively takes out her anger on Cita, Annette’s mom. This story explores the harsh reality of racism, >colorism, and privilege and the beauty of mother-daughter relationships.
