The play focuses on a meeting between American poet Emily Dickinson and British author Arthur Conan Doyle, who visits Dickinson in her Amherst home while he’s on a lecture tour of America in the 1880s. The two discuss literature, art, marriage, and immortality (and they solve a mystery along the way.) Though they never actually met, they play explores two very different ways of seeing the world.
