Zula by Moriah Shiddat is a story about a young woman that returns home to confront the strained relationship with her mother after the burdens of her newfound domesticity becomes a bigger burden than she can bear. This play explores the impact of social inequality and gender disparities in the black community and how they manifest in relationships between black mothers and their daughters.

Bio.
Moriah Shiddat is poet, visual artist and Doctor in African Studies (Howard University). Her work is inspired by the futile relationships between upward mobility and circumstance and the way in which social inequality materializes in one’s ability to leverage circumstance in a way that reveals the inconvenient truths of the human condition.
