If you’re an aspiring playwright, director, or producer in New York City, the New York Theater Festival should be a mandatory step. Before producing a full length play for 2023’s Winterfest, the thought of producing original work felt daunting and almost unattainable. Now, because of the Festival’s structure, resources, guidance, and freedom, I feel more than ready to continue my career as a producer. Participating in the New York Theater Festival allowed me to pull on dozens of different helpful resources and connections, all while maintaining complete creative freedom to produce my script the way that I wanted to. The theater itself has a magnificent lighting plot, a large stage, and dozens of set pieces available, which allowed me to direct my show in a comprehensive and gratifying way that I simply didn’t initially think would be possible on the budget I was working with.
