BIOGRAPHY:
Jamorra DuBose Morris is an experienced Off-Broadway director and results-driven playwright with over five years of creating original, thought-provoking productions at renowned theaters across New York City. Her creative journey began as a visual artist and fashion designer while attending the High School of Fashion Industries in NYC. It was there that she discovered her passion for storytelling, advertising, and mixed-media art—eventually leading her into the world of performance art.
In 2016, Jamorra debuted her first original play at her high school, inviting peers, family, and friends. The success of that performance inspired her to continue self-producing an acclaimed series of theatrical works titled Visions, including Visions: High-End Reality, Visions: The Mental War, and Visions: Ego, Fear, and Evil, staged at prominent venues such as the award-winning Off-Broadway Davenport Theater and the Abrons Arts Center.
Her bold and intimate workshop production The Killer Bois premiered at the WOW Café Theatre in 2019 and is now set for a revival at the Soho Playhouse for a month-long run in October, followed by performances at The Tank Theatre and the New York Theater Festival this fall.
In addition to her theatrical work, Jamorra curates immersive artistic events, including her signature Jammies Burlesque Tea Parties—vibrant celebrations that combine sensual burlesque performance, historical education, and culinary arts.
EDUCATION / TRAINING:
My theatre training has been shaped by a blend of formal education, hands-on experience, and mentorship. I began my creative journey at the High School of Fashion Industries in New York City, where I studied visual arts and fashion design—laying the foundation for my understanding of character, storytelling, and presentation. I am currently studying Culinary Arts at Prince George’s Community College (PGCC), expanding my approach to storytelling by exploring food as a cultural and creative language.
Alongside my academic path, I’ve participated in and led numerous theater workshops across New York and the DMV region, focusing on devised theatre, trauma-informed performance, writing for the stage, and ensemble development. A pivotal part of my growth as a playwright and director has come through mentorship from Off-Broadway producer Britt Lafield, whose guidance has helped shape my approach to production, story structure, and professional standards in the theatre world.
I’ve used this experience to teach and mentor others, working with both youth and seniors in schools and community arts programs. Through my workshops, students explore all facets of theater—from movement and direction to set design, scriptwriting, and leadership—learning how to express themselves creatively while working collectively.
