BIOGRAPHY:
Derek Denckla is the co-writer of the script for Corona Crazy: The Musical and co-owner of Hey Ho Let’s Go Productions, founded with composer and co-writer, Benjamin Hey! Denckla is an award-winning published poet and Grammy-nominated recording artist. His creative work spans songwriting, arts curation, production, publishing, performance, and literary arts. He has written and performed in bands Carpe Diem, Geek, Choke, Building 6, and Troubled Air, and is the founder of PraxinoscopeX, a Los Angeles–based performance and print platform, as well as Simple Machines Records. In addition to his artistic practice, Derek has served as a director of multiple arts-related nonprofit organizations and is currently a professor at The Los Angeles Film School, where he teaches writing and narrative craft. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School, New York. Born in Washington, D.C., Derek was a longtime resident of New York City before relocating to Los Angeles during the COVID pandemic, where he continues to develop work that bridges music, image-making, literature, and performance art.
