BIOGRAPHY:
Maria E. Andreu is a writer whose work draws on her experiences as a formerly undocumented immigrant to explore identity, belonging, and the power of marginalized voices.
Her debut novel, THE SECRET SIDE OF EMPTY, was inspired by her journey navigating adolescence while hiding her immigration status; it became a Junior Library Guild Selection and an Indie Excellence Award winner. Her novel LOVE IN ENGLISH was named an ALA/YALSA Best Fiction, a YALSA Amazing Audiobook, and an Indie Next Pick. Her novel JULIETA AND THE ROMEOS was selected as an NPR “Books We Love” pick.
DENATURALIZATION is the first play she's written and directed. She brings her personal insight into immigration and citizenship to the stage at this critical juncture in our nation’s immigrant story, crafting a tale of connection and resilience while shining a light on the arbitrariness of what it means to belong.
