BIOGRAPHY:
After almost a decade as a NYC Teacher & conducting graduate research on Black Performance, Kenzi James is elated to join the NY Theater Festival in Carpe Noctem. He was last seen as Man in Blue in For Colored Boyz, on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown When Freedom Ain’t Enuff at Theater Row as part of the Downtown Urban Arts Festival. His solo play The Kids was workshopped at Savannah Repertory Theater. Kenzi is a two time Audelco Award Nominee for best actor in a musical (Ain't Misbehavin & The Wiz) and he is an award winning dramaturg. At Shake on the Lake he mounted a BLM adaptation of Othello, co-dorecting with Sifiso Mabena. Kenzi is also a writer and his cultural reflections can be found in the anthology African American Arts: Activism, Aesthetics & Futurity and his essay “From the Conservatory to Broadway: Being Black in Musical Theater” is featured in the Fall issue of Southern Theater Magazine.
