Gabriel Gara Lonning bridges stand-up comedy and experimental performance art, crafting bold work for NYC's most adventurous stages. Since trading Iowa's cornfields for downtown's avant-garde scene at 18, he's pushed theatrical boundaries at La MaMa, Ars Nova, MoMA PS1, and Edinburgh Fringe Festival, proving comedy thrives far beyond the confines of traditional clubs.
EDUCATION / TRAINING:
Gabriel Gara Lonning has received extensive training across the performing arts. He studied improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade, where he learned the foundations of comedic improvisation, character work, and teamwork. Gabriel participated in the Ars Nova Camp residency, which focused on experimental theater, new works, and collaborative creation. At the Smack Mellon residency, he immersed himself in performance art and theater, engaging with interdisciplinary and site-specific approaches. In addition to his theater and improv background, Gabriel has dedicated more than 20 years to dance training at multiple schools, gaining experience in a variety of dance styles and movement techniques.
