BIOGRAPHY:
Aaron Abramowitz--accompanist, Musical Director, Soirée at Walter Benjamin's (Winterfest, 2023)--is a multifaceted musical entertainer on the NYC scene, playing multiple venues and recording. His recent album, "Funny Little Dream," contains seven cuts, among them "Berkeley" and "Carolina Sunday," all of which he composed. Soirée is nothing if not a talky play. To keep it lively, not only did Aaron add Ellington's "Satin Doll" to the original playlist composed by Daniel Townsend; he accompanied long stretches of dialogue with his own jazz improvisations. Working closely with Assistant Director Lauren Komer, he prepared a cast of talented singers to belt out their Frankfurt School hits.
EDUCATION / TRAINING:
University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music
SPECIAL SKILLS:
Aaron is a musical improviser with a command of the entire repertoire of jazz expression. With stunning spontaneity, he can register changes in theatrical action, tension, and mood in the musical soundscape as he embroiders it in real time. This is both an inspiring and uncanny gift, and the Winterfest production of Soirée at Walter Benjamin's has been indelibly animated by Aaron's running musical intervention.
